How to Write a Business Introductory Letter - Part 2
September 14th 2006 09:45
In How to Write an Business Introductory Letter – Part 1, we covered the layout of your letter. We established that changing text colours, spacing and size can work to draw attention to your letter if used appropriately and in moderation.
Another factor to consider when writing your letter is the formatting.
There are a number of acceptable formatting styles for business letters. However the two most popular are:
Example A
Insert spaces here
Mr Jimmy Cricket
22 Pitch Lane
WICKET NSW 1111

The number of spaces you insert depends on the length of the letter, however, they should remain the same throughout the document. For instance, if the letter is only small, where it states ‘insert spaces here’ you might be able to use 6 spaces. The idea is to get the letter evenly positioned on the page (using print preview will help with this).
There is no need to insert the customers address if you don’t wish to. If you find that it makes the page look crammed then you can safely remove it.
You can of course, choose either layout or something completely different. However you should always ensure that the layout doesn’t detract from what is trying to be said.
